SAFISHA
SaFISHa, literally translating “to clean” in Kiswahili, focuses on marine conservation in Dar-es-Salaam. Working in collaboration with organizations such as Nipe Fagio, SaFISHa gathers data on trash statistics in order to monitor beach sanitation levels, then recycles their collected trash. It also organizes beach clean-ups in order to create a safer and cleaner environment for marine animals and to improve the overall beach experience for locals and tourists. This activity invites GISS students to participate in a beach clean-up activity where students will collect trash and learn to gather statistics. Students will also be involved in recycling this trash into art and useful products, as they work in collaboration with renowned organizations such as Wonder Workshop and AfriCraft.
